Meal Train for “The Hollies”

We have two documented Supermoms in our midst at Salisbury UCC, and the opportunity to support both with home-cooked and delivery meals at a time of need. Who are these famed characters?  Let’s call them “The Hollies”.

As so many of us know, Holly Tierney is a pillar of our children’s programming and a loving force behind many of the initiatives that enrich our community life together.  In addition to raising their daughter, Mari, Holly and her husband Jain are host parents to Humaira and Basira, sisters who immigrated to the U.S. last year from Afghanistan to complete their high school educations.  Holly Tierney is having surgery at the end of this month and will be taking a few weeks off her feet for some well-deserved R&R.  You’ll find all the details needed to support her family with meals as she recovers by clicking this link.

Our second Supermom is Holly Fisher, a justice warrior with a heart for immigrants and refugees, a legal degree and the will to put both to good use, God’s use, against all odds.  Anyone who meets this description is most likely in need of some significant TLC right now.  We have the opportunity to offer just that as Holly’s hands are full this coming month.

In addition to raising their three kids, Bella, Lincoln and Satchel, Holly and Josh Fisher are host parents to Sara and Yalda, a second set of sisters who immigrated to the U.S. last year from Afghanistan to finish high school.  (That equals FIVE KIDS!)  As many remember, it was an epic effort to bring Yalda here last spring to join Sara. Thanks to Holly’s faithful persistence, the outpouring of prayer and financial support from so many, and God’s overwhelming grace, it came to pass. The sisters are now happily completing high school at Ms. Porter’s.

Holly Fisher’s time and attention are now with the family of Humaira and Basira, the host daughters of Holly Tierney.  The family has fallen under acute pressures in their home country of Afghanistan and have been compelled to emigrate for reasons of safety. Holly has been at work, often around the clock, coordinating the logistics of the family’s emigration and immigration to join their daughters here in the Northeast.  Holly is providing legal support and coaching to secure interviews and visas, filing endless paperwork, and coordinating a financial campaign to support their relocation in partnership with Salisbury UCC. This is above and beyond her legal day job.  You’ll find all the details needed to support the Fishers with meals at this link.  For ways to support Humaira & Basira’s family, click here.

Please keep these beloved women, and their extended, international and ever-growing families in your prayers as they carry on God’s work of love and restoration in our shared, broken and beautiful world.  We are grateful for the ties that bind us together in faith, and in hope, and in service of God’s call to love our neighbors, wherever we find them.
